In case you haven't heard already or seen the Model Call flyers posted around campus, the Berkeley College Fashion Club at the Paramus Campus is planning another fashion show for this spring! Since our last winter fashion show was so successful, we are partnering up again with Neiman Marcus Last Call at the Bergen Town Center in Paramus, NJ to hold our fashion show at the store. The show will be on Thursday, April 11th at 7:00 PM, and coordinated by Zita Quezada, Zilpa Rizzo, and Julie Vinolas! Our models will also be coordinated by Marshall Berry. Whether you're interested in helping out with the show, or just want to go to watch and support, come on out on April 11th! :)
If you attend classes in New York City or will be there on Tuesday, March 5th stop into the Student Center at the 41st St. Building! Rich Weiner, Vice President of Lord & Taylor will be visiting and presenting at 3:30-5:00. This is a great way to network with people in the retailing industry, especially if you're in need of an internship!
About Rich Weiner: He began with Lord and Taylor in 1992 as an executive trainee; became an Area Sales Manager (Department Manager) later that year; was promoted to Assistant General Manager in 1995; became a General Manager in 1997; promoted to Regional Vice President of Stores in 2005; and then promoted to Senior Vice President of Stores in 2012. Hope to see everyone there! Last year, we saw Pantone name “Tangerine Tango” as 2012’s Color of the Year. This year, it’s Emerald! Many may not be aware that in any design field, whether it be fashion design or interior design, there are certain colors that are designated as “the must have color of the year.” (I can thank my Visual Merchandising course for this kind of information) Why Emerald? Green was seen a lot coming down the runway during many fashion shows, and according to a press release from Pantone’s Color Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman, “It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity — no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.” When Tangerine Tango was announced as 2012’s Color of the Year, we saw that as a way to move forward with an abundance of energy because of how vivid and bright the color was, but the emerald color can symbolize peace, harmony, and calmness. While everyone on the consumer side of the fashion industry is looking to this with open arms, the members of the design community are not so thrilled. Many designers are not really used to the emerald color and are a little anxious about working with it because it’s very different than what many designers are used to working with. It’s true that e often see emerald jewelry, but not so often that you see an abundance of emerald green clothing unless it’s St. Patrick’s Day. Everyone is different, though. Are you excited about the new Color of the Year? I for one am willing to give it a try. I want to hear your thoughts! Tweet me @TNiC0LEE or comment below!. Last Wednesday, the Fashion Club at Berkeley College's Paramus Campus hosted a student run fashion show at Neiman Marcus Last Call Studio at the Bergen Town Center in Paramus, NJ. The models, host, and backstage members were all Berkeley College students. The show was coordianated by Paramus students Julie Vinolas, Ileana Ramos, and Fashion Club President Chelsea Gramlich. Leo Iqbal hosted the show. Professor Kelly Welker was involved by doing speeches throughout the show. The audience members were able to vote for the best stylist and win prizes during the show. The show consisted of two sets of outfits being modeled, Holiday Casual and Holiday Events. I took the liberty of taking a few photos throughout the show. Pictured are Erica Guzman and Amira Zaki. There were three places offered for Best Stylist. In first place was Zita Quezada, second place Lilas Jackway, and third place Ileana Ramos.
As we get ready to eat large amounts of food, let's not forget what we're thankful for. Also, don't forget that some malls and stores will be opening tonight at midnight for Black Friday! Who else will be g
Hey, everyone.
So, I came across this article on the Internet tonight, which stated that a number of retailers have been using harmful chemicals in their apparel. These chemicals can be found when your clothes are washed or unwashed. These are stores we shop at every day, for example H&M and Victoria's Secret! Those two stores, among others were part of a study conducted by Greenpeace. I wanted everyone to be aware of this. These chemicals are extremely toxic and cancer causing, which we shouldn't have to worry about when buying a top or a pair of jeans. To check if your favorite store is on the list and to read the full article, visit this website. Stay safe and be more aware of what the manufacturers are putting into your clothing. xoxo, Tessa |
